Radiance

I should say straightaway that this filter is really only good for portraits; it doesn't look good on any other kind of image, in fact it doesn't work well on all portraits. For the right kind of portrait, though, it can give a very nice effect.

Sometimes, I get bored with controls called 'kernel radius' and 'aggression', and I can't help wondering just how much sense they make to an end user. On this filter, I decided that if you're going to use obscure names for controls, maybe you should make them as obscure as possible. With this in mind, I started out by borrowing (from quantum mechanics, which is probably the most obscure field I can think of) the names of the properties of quarks. After using the two I could remember, I just sort of winged it from there...

...the end result is that this filter has wound up with four sliders called Strangeness, Charm, Truth and Beauty. I'm not even going to try to describe in detail what they do; suffice to say, their effects are mostly rather subtle, so just play around until you find something that looks good!

Obviously, any filter that admits to being intended for use on portraits is a cue for another picture of the wonderful Ms Sophie Marceau. That much goes without saying.
This woman will never be less than beautiful, no matter how much you mess around with the slider marked 'Beauty'. The filter does, however, manage to add a little extra charm.
