Moonlight

One of the wonderful things about Filtermeister is that you can sit and 'doodle' with it for hours. I wish I could say that I designed the xero : moonlight filter, but I didn't; I chanced upon it while just playing with Filtermeister. This is not an effect that you will use every day, but it does have its uses and gives a pleasing result.

This is the same picture I used in the xero : skycleaner overview, but in its original state (although I've tweaked the brightness and contrast because the original was rather dark).
This is one possible result from the xero : moonlight filter; I haven't shown the filter dialog because it has only a single slider, which ranges from a sort of 'late afternoon in winter' look to 'midnight in a deep cave'. The brightness and contrast have been adjusted on the thumbnail to make it a little more visible - click the thumbnail to see the actual result from the filter.
With a little imagination we can be more creative. This scene was shot in Wales, and seems to have possibilities... First, I promoted the image to a layer, then used xero : skycleaner to delete the rather unexciting white sky areas. Then, I created a new layer below the image, and filled it with a very dark blue to slightly-lighter blue gradient. I created another new layer and pasted in a shot of the moon, above the blue back-drop but below the original image. Then I used the xero : moonlight filter on the main image. Finally, as an afterthought, I added another new layer immediately beneath the main image, and used a cloud-rendering plugin (there are plenty around) to give a little interest to the sky.
And this is what I ended up with. Click the thumbnail to view the image properly.
